What's HOT in HR?

I admit, adding #Blogger to any of my online profiles looks like an untruth especially, if you look at the gaps this past couple years with my blogging efforts.  However, I plan to do better going forward starting with this blog I intended to write in August just before I spoke to the Women Entrepreneurs of Central Illinois (WE-CE) at Engrained Brewery Company on Lincolnshire Boulevard here in Springfield, IL.  While it was a fantastic turnout and I delivered my top five HOT HR issues list, I have since had the opportunity to learn more from the following work prep and attendance at various events: HR Management Development meeting with a client in and his team; The start of my fall class line up with two Managing Organizational Behavior (1 Online & 1 Face2Face) and two Human Resources Management (1 Online & 1 Face2Face) courses; HR Audit conducted at a clients client location in Southern IL; Full Day HR Training for another clients client (yes, I sub contract);...

SHRM's New Baby Named!

As you read in my most recent posts, SHRM has announced new certifications that will be available in 2015.  Several have referred to the fiasco with the announcement and relationship with HRCI as a DIVORCE .  While that may or may not be true as the two organizations proceed, SHRM has announced the name of what I have referred to above as their new Baby.  They are the SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resources Management - Certified Professional) and SHRM-SCP (Society for Human Resources Management - SENIOR Certified Professional).  Here is what the logo's will look like: Of course, as a career long volunteer for SHRM, I don't mean that in a condescending way.  However, it should be treated as such due to the delicate situation that has been created between the two organizations and primarily within the community who is very concerned about the impression this makes on the non-HR community.  I know the latter, is by far my biggest concern as I have worked...

2013 Blog Posts

Annually, I am required to do a review of my work for submission to the college review board.  Blogging is just an add on because the academic world does not recognize blogging as a legit contribution to the profession as does most of the media.  Regardless, it takes time and based on feedback I have received on occasion it helps people now and then.  So here is a list of my blog posts written for five different sites ( Talent Culture , Women of HR , IL SHRM , IL Chamber to include this one previously known as DonnaRogersHR) in 2013. 2013 Blog List Location  Date  Title  Women of HR 17-Jan-13 SHRM Conference Highlight: Meet the Illinois State Council of SHRM  Donna Rogers HR  1-Feb-13 Where Does Time Go? Will I See You at ILSHRM13?

I sure hope to see you at ILSHRM13 and hear about your SHRM related membership and volunteer experiences! The first half of the year has been extremely successful for the Membership Advisory Committee (MAC) for which I am one of five members. Illinois is one of ten states I represent in the North Central Region.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you in Illinois for participating in the Spring MAC survey that assisted us in our meetings with the SHRM, SHRM Foundation, and HRCI boards just prior to the annual conference in Chicago in June.  The following are links to all of the MAC related communications I have produced so far this year.   MAC Meetings with "the Boards" Feedback http://donnarogershr.blogspot.com/2013/07/mac-board-meeting-feedback.html SHRM (NCR) North Central Region MAC Update http://donnarogershr.blogspot.com/2013/06/shrm-ncr-north-central-region-mac-update.html 1st Offical SHRM NCR MAC Update http://donnaroger...

The Pilgrimage to #SHRMLead

While I did not see any turkey’s on this Pilgrimage it was one that I will remember for a lifetime.   If you were from any other state than Illinois at the annual SHRM Leadership Conference in National Harbor, MD last week you would have seen the sea of red shirts and thought it was a “wow-look at the masses that made the trip (Pilgrimage) from half way across the country too.   Again this year (3 rd in a row) all attendees from the ILSHRM board and chapter board members were offered a red shirt to wear for two reason: 1) Take a group photo and 2) show our team/state spirit.   The latter was the more important of the two because no one felt alone.   They had others to turn to and felt included which is extremely important to me as a leader in this state.   In the “ Strengths Finder ” assessment one of my top five is “INCLUDER” and if this is the only legacy I leave for my time in a leadership role, I am ecstatic, because when I was a chapter leader, I ha...
