Fall North Central SHRM MAC Update

The MAC Representatives participated in a conference call on September 17, 2013 with Elissa O'Brien, SPHR - SHRM Vice President of Membership, Amy Schabacker Dufrane,  Executive Director of the HR Certification Institute (HRCI),  and other SHRM Staff Members.  Amy provided HRCI's response to the MAC Reps report presented in June 2013. Her presentation showed HRCI is listening to the volunteer leaders and HRCI is working on meeting the volunteer leaders needs. Amy noted HRCI is working on a communication piece on how they plan to address the issues the volunteer leaders voiced in the MAC Survey. Once this document is received by the MAC Reps, we will provide to you.  Recently, volunteer leaders were asked to complete a second 2013 MAC Survey regarding "Professional Development".  We had over 700 volunteer leaders complete the survey. The MAC presented the findings to the  SHRM Staff during the SHRM Foundation Thought Leaders Retreat and SHRM St...

Resume Building for the Next Level

On Tuesday of next week I will be speaking at the Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies (IACAA) conference.  This is the third year I have been invited and paid to speak at this event.  I am looking forward to sharing everything I know on building a solid resume.  Not just the document itself but all the KSAs you need to have in your pocket to put on your Linked In profile or an old fashioned paper resume.  The following is a glimpse at the advice I plan to share: The session will explore KSA's necessary for an Emerging Leader and identify an action plan to get there. We will also take it to the next level by building an ideal resume that can sell in this era of social recruiting. Learn the latest sites where you can share the KSAs you have.  Who Are The Emerging Leaders? Corporate leaders typically look to the top-rated 3 percent to 5 percent of their employees as candidates for fast-tracking. The June 2010 Harvard ...

Online HRCI Approved Webcasts Nov/Dec 2011

Cheaper, faster, and more succinct is the goal in this HR Tuesday Lunch-N-Learn program. In November I will embark on a new experience. I have been teaching HR for years in organizations and at universities and now I am going to be teaching via the World Wide Web! I admit I have been teaching online via UIS since 2008 but this will very different. My office doors will be open to any interested HR professional who wants to learn more without taking a full 17 week course. The courses are designed to sit at your desk with your lunch and learn on Tuesday’s in November through mid-December. As an HRCI pre-approved provider I have submitted all of these programs for 2 hours of recertification credit. The programs are co-sponsored by Rogers HR Consulting and University of Illinois at Springfield. Affirmative Action Plan: Where do I start? 11/29/11 11am-1pm (2hr) If you have been told by a vendor, a consultant, a department of labor specialist that your company is required to prepare and...
