The title of this blog post is dedicated to a new twitter user/Peep and #ILSHRM11 attendee that in my eyes posted the most enlightening and relevant conference ending tweet out there. Follow her @ChristieHR. Let me tell you why this particular tweet caught my eye!
As we ended the conference it was raining and at one point I had to "borrow" the umbrella from our SHRM Foundation gift basket to get a computer out of my trunk for a speaker who did not bring one. Unfortunately, as a result of this wet excursion, the basket winner gained a "gently used" SHRM umbrella. The sky was truly sad as it was "crying rain" fairly heavily between mid to late morning just before the last session.
The point is, the emotion, enthusiasm, and energy within the walls of the Drury Inn was so high that I truly think some were sad to see the two day event end. Although my feet were crying for a break! Attendees were getting so much knowledge from the fantastic line up of speakers that they wanted more. They will eventually get more in 2012 but in the meantime, the smiles, laughs, engagement, and positive comments coming out of almost every session was outstanding. The aftermath today with emails, tweets, and blog posts and calls continued to spew that same amount of enthusiasm and appreciation for the conference planners and volunteers. I admit there are some changes to be made to make everyone happy who were in attendance but that is to be expected when you bring together 923 in one place (attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, speakers, volunteers, press corp, etc.).
I've already been on the phone today with next years conference chair @jkjhr who is taking note of the suggestions and we are looking forward to the feedback we will get when the evaluations go out via Zoomerang later this week. All in all, #ILSHRM11 was the best state conference experience I have ever had as a volunteer since 2002 when I began working on the ILSHRM board. My expectations were met and I want to reiterate what I said in my ILSHRM Bound! post-thank you, thank you, thank you to all #ILSHRM Volunteers who made this happen. I'd like to add my thanks to exhibitors, press corp, sponsors, NIU, the Drury Lane & Booth/Equipment providers and employees. Without you our attendees would not have walked away with as much as they did and boy would we be hearing about it today.
